Since 1963 small boats have sailed and raced on the Panmure Basin, a volcanic crater connected to Auckland's Waitemata Harbour by a narrow channel and the Tamaki Estuary.

The club has concentrated over the past fifty years on training junior and senior sailors and providing friendly competition on the Basin's sheltered tidal waters. Easy access, low fees, a safe environment and a fleet of yachts available for use have made PLSC a popular club for beginners and Sunday sailors alike.
